STUDIOS led the design team for this new 500-unit graduate student apartment building as well as an additional 17,000 gsf Commons Building. The design recognizes the Mediterranean vocabulary and character of the neighboring university and privately held residential buildings. The program for the Commons Building includes quality-of-life student spaces such as multi-use meeting rooms, banquet facilities and a catering kitchen, student lounges and offices, and computer labs. The Commons will serve the residents of the adjacent housing as well as the larger campus community.

Innovative unit designs and the general configuration of the plan allow the triangular site to be fully utilized. The project is located at the intersection of Los Angeles’ Westwood Neighborhood and the southwest portion of UCLA’s campus; the scheme helps knit together the different student housing facilities located within the Westwood Village district, and increases connectivity with other miscellaneous UCLA functions. A major pedestrian path, or paseo, runs through the heart of the site, reinforcing this connection.

STUDIOS is the executive architect for this project, in association with Daniel Solomon Design Partners.
